NAVIGATING INSURANCE

Set aside some time to call your insurance company.  Ask for a detailed explanation of your behavioral or mental health benefits in writing and keep a copy. Get an UPDATED list of in network providers, and health systems. Ask about out-of-network reimbursement. If forms are required, ask for them to be emailed to you or how you can access them.  Make several copies.  At each visit, make sure forms are signed and dated and that the proper ICD10 (diagnosis code) is applied to the forms. Make sure you get a receipt marked “Paid in full” and attach to forms. Make a copy of all receipts and forms and keep in a folder for your records (note when they were submitted). Get a contact name, email and phone number for someone at the insurance company you can speak with.
